Student of the Month for 2018-2019

 

MAY STUDENT OF THE MONTH – HAZEN SOUCY

Hazen Soucy, son of Kurt and Diane Soucy, has been selected as Milford High School’s Student of the month for May. Hazen’s teachers nominated him because of his numerous achievements in leadership and scholarship. As the editor of the yearbook, Hazen has been pivotal in making both last year’s and this year’s yearbook a success. Hazen, according to one of his teachers, “paid an instrumental leadership role last year” that prepared him for continued success this year. In addition, Hazen was an intern at BMA Architectural Group in Amherst, New Hampshire and recently won the American Institute of Architecture NH’s 2019 high school competition.  One of his teachers commented that “Hazen gives 100% in everything that he does,” and serves as a role model of hard work and diligence.  Hazen was selected from over 850 students for this distinction. MHS thanks Hazen for his contributions to the school programs of Milford and wish him the best for future success.

APRIL STUDENT OF THE MONTH – BENJAMIN “BEN” BROCKWAY

 Benjamin “Ben” Brockway, son of Jeff and Sarah Brockway, has been selected as Milford High School’s Student of the Month for April. Ben’s teacher’s nominated him because of his numerous leadership and citizen qualities. Ben is not only patient and capable of sharing his knowledge with other students every day in his classes. According to one of his teachers, Ben finds ways to communicate with other students  that “builds a sense of competence, confidence and team.” According to another teacher, he also “structures group projects to maximize time and resources” that allow everyone to be successful.  Ben was also described as taking “full advantage of all of the opportunities available to him, all the while exhibiting excellence.” Ben participates in band, Jazz Band and robotics events outside of school. Ben was selected from over 850 students for this distinction. MHS thanks Ben for his contribution to the school programs of Milford and wished him the best for future success

MARCH STUDENT OF THE MONTH – EVA GOODWIN

Eva Goodwin, daughter of Stephen and Blanca Goodwin, has been selected as Milford High School’s Student of the Month for March. Eva’s teachers nominated her as an ideal candidate for recognition. Eva has served as President of the Student Council, Class Secretary for four years and is committed to both her school and local community. Last semester, Eva volunteered to provide social and educational support for a transfer student who came to MHS from outside of the US. Eva’s teachers describe her as “warm, generous and kind” and “a selfless person who does what is right simply because it is.” Eva was selected from over 850 students for this distinction. MHS thanks Eva for her contributions to the school programs of Milford and wishes her the best for future success.

FEBRUARY STUDENT OF THE MONTH – ALLIE DEGRAFFENRIED

Allie DeGraffenried, daughter of Samuel and Jennifer DeGraffenried, has been selected as Milford High School’s Student of the Month for February. Allie’s teachers nominated her for her hard work and commitment to all of the activities in which she participates. In band, National Honor Society, the swim team and West Street Beat, Allie is both a leader and active member. Allie is successful in balancing academics, community service, sports and her love of music. Her teachers describe Allie as being “kind, hard-working and responsible” as well as being “someone you can always trust to get the job done.” Allie was selected from over 850 students for this distinction. JANUARY STUDENT OF THE MONTH – BRIANNA BERRY

Brianna Berry, daughter of Chris and Jill Berry, has been selected as Milford High School’s Student of the Month for January. Brianna’s teachers nominated her as an ideal candidate for recognition. Brianna has been a volunteer at the Manchester Food Bank and Nashua Soup Kitchen as well as in The Young Kasamas and the CROP Walk. In addition, Brianna is a member of NHS, the Spanish Club and participates in numerous track and field activities. As part of her Marketing Independent Study, Brianna has worked with the Wadleigh Library to encourage community members to acquire library cards. Her teachers describe Brianna as “focused and motivated” as well as “kind, friendly and compassionate.” Brianna was selected from over 850 Students for this distinction. MHS thanks Brianna for her contributions to the school programs of Milford and wishes her the best for future success.

DECEMBER STUDENT OF THE MONTH – SOPHIE DOCKTER

Sophie Dockter, daughter of Kevin Dockter and Cynthia Dustin of Mason, has been selected as Milford High School’s Student of the Month for December. Sophie’s teachers nominated her as an ideal candidate for recognition. Sophie is an active member of FBLA and has been integral in fundraising for organizations like Make-A-Wish, creating lobby displays and being a leader. In addition, her teachers mentioned Sophie’s volunteer work in the National Honor Society and her hard work and commitment to the yearbook committee. Sophie was described as being “hard-working and positive.” Sophie was selected from over 850 students for this distinction. MHS thanks Sophie for her contribution to the school programs of Milford and wishes her the best for future success.

OCTOBER

OCTOBER STUDENT OF THE MONTH ABIGAIL “Abby” WHALEN

Abigail “Abby” Whalen, daughter of Jim and Patricia Whalen of Milford, has been selected as Milford High School’s Student of the Month for October. Abby’s teachers nominated her as an ideal candidate for recognition. Abby’s participation and leadership role in FBLA are notable.  Abby has been an invaluable volunteer in fundraising efforts throughout the year and her willingness to take tasks and “run with them” set her apart. Abby was instrumental in planning and creating the FBLA display for the Fall Leadership Workshop. She is described as being, “positive, energetic and reliable” by her teachers. In addition, Abby is currently the secretary for National Honor Society and has been a member of the Prom and Yearbook Committees. Abby’s teachers noted her positive, can-do attitude and the energy and commitment she brings to her responsibilities. Abby was selected from over 850 students for this distinction. SEPTEMBER STUDENT OF THE MONTH MARGARET “Meg” SAWYER

Margaret “Meg” Sawyer, daughter of Tom and Jolene Sawyer, has been selected as Milford High School’s Student of the Month for September. Meg’s teachers nominated her as an ideal candidate for recognition. This fall, Meg will serve as the president of the Class of 2019, the president of the National Honor Society and a captain of the Girls’ Soccer Team; in addition, she participates in track and field, Model UN, the Spanish Club, Interact and is the student representative on the Administrative Team. She is according to her teacher a “natural born leader who is capable of leading with a style that is relaxed and effective.” Meg was also described as being “a respectful, kind and smart young woman” who “always treats the staff and her peers with courtesy and respect.” Meg was selected from over 850 students for this distinction.
