Student of the Month for 2017-2018

OCTOBER

OCTOBER STUDENT OF THE MONTH SHELBY HOUGHTON

Shelby Houghton, daughter of Lisa Houghton and Bernard Lecuyer, has been selected as Student of the Month for October. Shelby’s teachers nominated her as an ideal candidate for recognition. Shelby brings a positive and energetic approach to her many activities at Milford High School. Shelby is a drum major for the MHS Marching Band and is a leader and active participant in Executive Student Council, planning Freshman Orientation and Spirit Week. In addition, Shelby is a member of the National Honor Society and has served as the student representative to the Principal’s Cabinet. Shelby is, according to her teacher, “just an awesome kid who makes the school a better place.” Shelby was selected from over 850 students for this distinction. MHS thanks Shelby for her contributions to the school programs of Milford and wishes her the best for future success.

SEPTEMBER

SEPTEMBER STUDENT OF THE MONTH – DELILA ALICEA

Delila Alicea, daughter of Christina Ortiz, has been selected as Milford High School’s student of the month for September.  Delila’s teachers nominated her as an ideal candidate for recognition.  Delila was recognized for her personal and academic growth, her participation in the Winni Dip every February and her active contributions and participation in and leadership role as vice-president of Best Buddies. Her attendance at the Best Buddies International Conference and recognition by Anthony Shriver brought respect and positive attention to Milford High School. In addition, teachers mentioned her positive energy and kind spirit. Delila is also a student member of the MHS staff and student committee that addresses issues of drug use and abuse in the community.  Delila is, according to her teacher a “truly giving and generous person who has made important contributions to the school.” Delila was selected from over 850 students for this distinction. MHS thanks Delila for her contributions to the school programs of Milford and wishes her the best for her future success.

JUNE

JUNE STUDENT OF THE MONTH – BRYAN WHITTIER

Bryan Whittier, son of Scott and Carol Whittier, has been selected as Milford High School’s Student of the Month for June. Bryan’s teachers nominated him as an ideal candidate for recognition. Bryan is a member of the National Honor Society, maintains excellent grades and participates in the school chorus, West Street Beat and both the school band and jazz band. One of his teachers said that Bryan “is an integral part of our music program as he is involved in all of our performing ensembles and is hard working, reliable and passionate about music.”

He is also described as “quiet, respectful, smart and kind.” Bryan was selected from over 850 students for this distinction. MHS thanks Bryan for his contributions to the school programs of Milford and wishes him the best for future success.

MAY STUDENT OF THE MONTH – DEVANY PITSAS

Devany Pitsas, daughter of Peter and Lori Pitsas, has been selected as Milford High School’s Student of the Month for May. Devany’s teacher nominated her as an ideal candidate for recognition. Devany is the historian of the National Honor Society, maintains excellent grades and is a varsity player in soccer, track and basketball. She was also team captain of her basketball team in both her junior and senior year. In addition, Devany is a member of Interact, the Wellness Committee and the Environmental Club. She is according to her teacher, “passionate and patient, creative and organized and is an intelligent, athletic and civic-minded young woman.” Devany was selected from over 850 students for this distinction. APRIL STUDENT OF THE MONTH – ALEXANDRA MATSIS

 Alexandra Matsis, daughter of Ken and Jen Matsis, has been selected as Milford High School’s Student of the Month for April. Alexandra’s teachers nominated her as an ideal candidate for recognition. Alexandra is a member of National Honor Society and Interact as well as a member of the varsity soccer team and captain of the indoor and outdoor track teams. Alexandra is an energetic volunteer who has participated in fund raisers for the Rotary Scholarship Fund and the Interact Charitable Donation Fund as well as the Net Sports Academy and a local nursing home.  Alexandra was recognized as WMUR’s Hometown Hero in February.  Alexandra is, according to her teacher, “a kind and thoughtful young woman who works hard in the classroom and in her athletics.” Alexandra was selected from over 850 students for this distinction. MHS thanks Alexandra for her contribution to the school programs at Milford and wishes her the best for future success.

MARCH STUDENT OF THE MONTH – SHANNON DREW

Shannon Drew, daughter of Kevin and Susan Drew, has been selected as Milford High School’s Student of the Month for March. Shannon’s teachers nominated her as an ideal candidate for recognition. Shannon is a member of the National Honor Society, the Student Council and Model UN as well as a participant in educational programs at both Harvard and St. Paul’s. Shannon has been a recipient of both the Bay Path University Book Award and the NH Council for the Humanities book award. Shannon is also an avid dancer and singer who has been a member of the Riverbend Youth Company Theatre for several years. Shannon is, according to her teacher, “a young woman who does many things well and brings joy and energy to all of them.” Shannon was selected from over 850 students for this distinction. MHS thanks Shannon for her contribution to the school programs at Milford and wishes her the best for future success.

FEBRUARY STUDENT OF THE MONTH – SYDNEY ORSORIO 

Sydney Orsorio, daughter of Eric Beauchamp and Jan-Marie Craig, has been selected as Milford High School’s Student of the Month for February. Sydney’s teachers nominated her as an ideal candidate for recognition. Sydney is a member of the basketball team as well as both the indoor and outdoor track teams. Sydney is also a member of the West Street Beat and has participated in numerous musical events.  Sydney was nominated for her volunteerism in the music program, where she has been an “incredible help.” In addition, Sydney has volunteered to sing the National Anthem at nearly all home volleyball and basketball games, a “level of service and dedication that is quite remarkable,” according to her teacher.  Sydney was selected from over 850 students for this distinction. JANUARY STUDENT OF THE MONTH – SKYLAR CURTIS

Skylar Curtis, daughter of Stephen Curtis and Roberta Greeley Curtis, has been selected as Milford High School’s Student of the Month for January. Skylar’s teachers nominated her as an ideal candidate for recognition. Skylar is a member of National Honor Society, a member of the Tri-M Honor Society, the recipient of the University of Rochester’s Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony Award and is an officer of the MHS Chapter of Best Buddies. Skylar is, according to her teacher, “A wonderful person and scholar” and simply a positive person who makes like better for many.  Skylar was selected from over 850 students for this distinction. MHS thanks Skylar for her contributions to the school programs at Milford and wishes her the best for future success.

DECEMBER STUDENT OF THE MONTH – RYAN FLAHERTY

Ryan Flaherty, son of Kenneth and Angela Flaherty, has been selected as Milford High School’s Student of the Month for December. Ryan’s teachers nominated him as an ideal candidate for recognition. Ryan is a member of National Honor Society, maintains excellent grades and participates in both baseball and football. Ryan was nominated for his volunteerism going “above and beyond in all aspects of community service,” according to his teacher. Ryan is always willing to volunteer cheerfully and tirelessly and has been an outstanding volunteer for the Unified Basketball Team. Ryan was selected from over 850 students for this distinction. NOVEMBER STUDENT OF THE MONTH – Rachael Nelson

Rachael Nelson, daughter of Michael and Maureen Nelson has been selected Milford High School’s Student of the Month for November.  Her teachers nominated her as an ideal candidate for recognition. She is involved in Latin and History Club, athletics and National Honors Society. Her teachers admire her quiet leadership, professional demeanor and selfless work ethic. These distinctions should make Rachael feel proud and worthy of being selected from over eight hundred and sixty students as Student of the Month.
