Mr. Laird

From the time I was in high school taking accounting classes, I knew I too wanted to teach accounting. I knew college was expensive, and my family did not have the ability to help pay for school so I joined the Air National Guard to help me pay for college. I've been working in the restaurant industry since age 16, and currently have worked for the same restaurant for over 20 years. I have worked every position from busser to manager and have had experiences throughout the years to help illustrate and give examples for accounting topics.

I took some time off from college to work for Paychex, where I managed over 300 clients and processed their payroll and investigated any tax issues. I was set to go back to school in the fall of 2001, but due to 9/11, I was activated into full time active duty.

I began going back to school in December 2001 and got my Bachelor's in Business Education in May 2003. I worked at Nashua North from 2003-2005, took a year off to be a full time restaurant manager, and went back to teaching in Fall 2007 at Pinkerton Academy. I left there in 2013 and taught at Timberlane for 1 year, and now have been at Milford since August 2014 where I have been the sole accounting teacher and one of the FBLA  Advisers.

We currently offer Accounting 1, Accounting 2 and Accounting 3. In Accounting 1 we look at how to manage the day to day operations of a service business formed as a sole proprietorship. In Accounting 2 we focus on the daily operations of a merchandising business that is formed as a corporation. By taking Accounting 1 and 2 you could be eligible for 3 college credits through SNHU for their ACC 201 Financial Accounting class.

Accounting 3 focuses on QuickBooks Online and gives students a preview of how companies process their transactions using an Automated Accounting System. Students who complete Accounting 3 are eligible for 3 additional college credits through SNHU for their ACC 315 Accounting Information Systems and they also take the QuickBooks Online certification exam.  You can earn six college credits and a certification by taking all three accounting courses!!
