REPORTING A STUDENT ABSENCE

Parents/Guardians are expected to call 673-4201 (Press 1) for the Main Office attendance line or email [email protected] by 9:00 am to report the absence of their child each day the child is absent.

If a call or email is not received by 9:00 am, the school will call to verify status, however, the absence may not be considered excused. Please use the attendance line only to report student absences.

TARDY PROCEDURES

The school day at MHS begins at 7:40 AM. Students should be in their A Block class by the time
the bell rings at 7:40 AM.

All students tardy between 7:40 are subject to the following:
    • 1st infraction – Admin will issue a first warning
    • 2nd infraction – Admin will issue a second warning
    • 3rd infraction – Student will meet with administration to discuss the reasons for their continued tardies and the parent will be notified
    • Further infractions could result in additional disciplinary actions, attendance plans, and
      parent/guardian meetings.

Tardiness will be excused for medical appointments, court appearances, funeral attendance,
DMV appointments, or college visitations. To excuse a tardy due to an appointment, students
must bring in a copy of verification of the appointment.

DISMISSAL FROM SCHOOL

Students may be dismissed from school for family emergencies and medical appointments that
cannot be made outside of school time. The parent/guardian should send their child in with a note
or call the Main Office to request a dismissal. The attendance line should not be used for
dismissals.

If a student is dismissed or has off block privilege, students must sign out in the Main Office
before leaving school. Using another exit or not signing out will result in a consequence. This
may include loss of off block privileges.

Students living with a parent/guardian, regardless of their age, will need to obtain permission from their parent/guardian for dismissal from school.  Students eighteen (18) years old and older who are declared independent must obtain approval from an administrator prior to signing out.  There are no exceptions to this policy. Students dismissed by the Nurse due to health-related issues need to check out with the Main Office before leaving the building.
